Time Estimates
Reading times are calculated from word counts at a moderate pace. Use them as a guide, not a guarantee.
Choose a book, record where you are, and set a daily goal. Your progress is stored in localStorage in this browser; it is not uploaded to a user account.
If the EPUB has no fixed print pagination, the tool starts with an estimated page count and lets you replace it with the page total shown by your own reader.

The reading tools provide estimates to help you plan your time. Median word count across the catalog is about 78,000 words, with a median reading time of roughly 340 minutes.
Each book page shows its own word count, section count, and estimated reading time, plus average sentence length as a gauge of prose style.

Books are divided into sections, which may correspond to chapters or parts. More sections can mean more natural stopping points.
Average words per sentence gives a rough idea of readability. Shorter sentences are often easier to follow.
The Reading Tracker is a simple tool for planning your reading progress. It records pages, not chapters or minutes. You set a daily page goal, and the tracker estimates how many days it will take to finish. The sections below examine how to use the tracker effectively, with a concrete example from the catalog.
The tracker works with any book in the library. If a fixed page count is not available, it estimates one based on word count, assuming 250 words per page. You can also override the total with the page count from your own edition, making the tracker flexible.
The default daily goal is 20 pages, which is a reasonable starting point for many readers. However, you can adjust it to match your schedule. If you have more time on weekends, you might set a higher goal for those days. A useful approach is to choose a number you can sustain, not one that feels overwhelming.
For example, consider Wilt Thou Torchy — Reading Companion. It has an estimated reading time of 294 minutes, which at 250 words per minute corresponds to about 67,458 words. With the default 250 words per page, that is roughly 270 pages. If you read 20 pages a day, you will finish in about 14 days. If you increase your goal to 30 pages, you will finish in 9 days. The tracker lets you see these estimates instantly.
The tracker's initial page estimate is based on word count, but your physical or digital edition may have different pagination. You can replace the total page count with the one shown by your reading app or book. This ensures that your progress is accurate for the edition you are using.
For instance, if your edition of Wilt Thou Torchy has 300 pages instead of the estimated 270, you can enter 300. The tracker will then use that number to calculate your remaining pages and estimated finish date. This is particularly useful for books with introductions, footnotes, or illustrations that add pages.
As you read, you update your current page in the tracker. It then shows your progress as a percentage and estimates how many days remain, based on your daily goal. If you miss a day, you can adjust your goal for the next day to get back on track. The tracker is designed to be flexible, not punitive.
The estimated remaining time is proportional to your progress: if you have read half the book, you have half the time left, assuming you maintain your goal. This helps you see For readers who are on pace to finish by a certain date. The tracker stores your history in your browser's localStorage, so no account is needed, and your data stays on your device.
